About Pinopolis, South Carolina
Owners of South Carolina's oldest plantations established Pinopolis as a summer retreat among the pines. In 1940 a huge powerhouse rose by the old Santee Canal for the Santee-Cooper hydroelectric project. Pinopolis was planned as one end of a dam seven or eight miles long.
