From the 1903 Historical Encyclopedia of Illinois: "ROBINSON, an incorporated city and the county-seat of Crawford County, 25 miles northwest of Vincennes."
From the History of Crawford and Clark Counties: "A town was laid out, and named Robinson, in honor of Hon. John M. Robinson, a lawyer well known here some years ago."
