About Springville, California
Springville took its name from a fine soda spring found there. The spring's waters were known for a pleasant taste and healing powers. Springville's chief fame came from apples grown nearby. Those apples won prizes wherever they were exhibited.
Avon C. Coburn cut lumber in the Tule River pineries from age fifteen. In 1890 he bought a quarter section and laid out Springville on it. He built a planing and box mill there. He also put up houses to rent as the town grew.
- The day the railroad reached townOn September 9, 1911, Springville celebrated the finished Porterville North Eastern railroad. Crowds came from Fresno, Bakersfield and other towns in the county. Southern Pacific later absorbed the line.
