About Tarpey Village, California
Tarpey Village is a community of 3,997 people in Fresno County, between Fresno and Clovis, at an elevation of 351 feet. In 1892 the San Joaquin Valley Railroad built a depot on the Tarpey Ranch to serve its new line from Fresno to Friant, and the depot stood where Clovis and Ashlan Avenues cross, on the southeast corner.
- Sold within a yearThe railroad's builders did not keep their line for long. In 1893, a year after the Tarpey Depot went up, the Southern Pacific Railroad bought the route from Fresno to Friant.
- Restored in Oldtown ClovisThe old depot was later taken off the ranch and moved to Oldtown Clovis, where it was restored in 1999. Today it stands at Clovis Avenue and 4th Street, on the northeast side of that crossing.
- Clovis Unified schoolsTarpey Village is part of the Clovis Unified School District. Its children are zoned for Tarpey Elementary, Alta Sierra Intermediate and Buchanan High.
