About the Town of Warwick, New York

During the Revolution, workers at the Sterling Iron Works in Warwick forged the great Hudson River Chain. The chain kept British warships from sailing up the Hudson. In 1783 George Washington passed through town, stopped at Baird's Tavern, and stayed the night at the home of John Hathorn.

In the early 1700s Benjamin Aske, one of the first patent holders, gave his land the name Warwick. He started selling parcels to settlers in 1719. His first sale was 100 acres to Lawrence Decker. The town government of Warwick was formally set up in 1788.
