About Trevose, Pennsylvania

Trevose is a community of 3,842 people in Bucks County, laid out along Brownsville Road, the line between Lower Southampton and Bensalem townships. For many years the small village where the two townships met went by the name Brownsville. Then the Reading Railway ran its New York Branch through it and called the new station Trevose, after the Growden family's estate in Bensalem, and the town grew up around that station after 1876.

The village got its own post office on January 27, 1882, and C. P. Stackhouse was named its first postmaster. By 1942 the Trevose Horticultural Society had made the town widely known, thanks to the success of its flower shows.

  • A manor house from 1687Joseph Growden settled in Bensalem and finished his manor house there in 1687, when it ranked among the finest homes in the province. He called it Trevose, the name of his family's country seat in England, and in time the name spread to his entire estate. Growden was Cornish, and the name comes from Trenfos, the Cornish word for farm.
  • Its own census place in 2010For years the Census Bureau counted Trevose together with its neighbor as Feasterville-Trevose. The two were split into separate census-designated places for the 2010 census, which counted 3,550 people in Trevose.
  • An EF3 tornado in 2021On July 29, 2021, an unusually powerful EF3 tornado struck Trevose. It hit a car dealership directly, and many bystanders recorded it as it passed.
