About Wallace, Florida

Wallace is a census-designated place in Santa Rosa County, part of the Pensacola metropolitan area, and the 2020 census counted 3,868 people here. In 1905 local Baptists organized a congregation called Smyrna Baptist Church, and four decades later that church took the community's name as Wallace Baptist Church.

  • Smyrna Baptist Church, 1905The congregation's first church stood roughly 300 yards west of where its pastorium is now, at 3287 Wallace Lake Road. It became a member of the Pensacola Bay Baptist Association in 1907, and six years later, in 1913, it also became a member of the Santa Rosa Baptist Association.
  • A new name in 1946Around 1943 the members put up a one-room building of red tile on the spot where the church stands now. In October 1946 they renamed their church Wallace Baptist Church. About five years after that, the red tile building came down, and the men of the congregation built the sanctuary that is still in use.
