About Williams, Northampton County, Pennsylvania

Williams Township was organized in 1750, two years before Northampton County was created. In 1728 William Allen bought a tract of 20,000 acres, mostly in what is now the township. The land became known as Williams' Land. It had once belonged to a descendant of William Penn, the colony's founder.

The Coffeetown Grist Mill in Williams Township was built in 1762. In the 1920s it became a fertilizer factory. The building also served for a time as a schoolhouse and a post office. It joined the National Register of Historic Places in 1977.
