About Wilson, Pennsylvania
Wilson is a borough of 8,259 people in Northampton County, right beside the city of Easton in the Lehigh Valley. It is named for President Woodrow Wilson, and its life as a township started on February 10, 1913. Property owners went to the courts in the first half of 1920 and asked them to make the township a borough, the kind of government Wilson has today.
- Founded in 1913The 1920 History of Northampton County and the Grand Valley of Lehigh, revised by William J. Heller, says the courts completed the new township in 1914. Court records point to February 10, 1913. They come from Palmer School District v. Wilson School District, a case over money Wilson owed Palmer for debt created when the township was formed.
- Wilson v. Easton TransitIn 1916 township officials sued the Easton Transit Co. for doing work in Wilson without first getting the permission it needed. The township lost and appealed to the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania. On May 22, 1917, Justice Walling upheld the lower court's decision and ordered the township to pay the costs.
- Wilson Area High SchoolThe borough gives its name to the Wilson Area School District. Its students in grades nine through 12 go to Wilson Area High School, which stands inside the borough.
