About Youngsville, New Mexico

Youngsville is a census-designated place of 44 people, by the 2020 count, in Rio Arriba County. State Road 96 runs through it, and the town has its own post office under ZIP code 87064. For most of its modern history that office was a family affair, run by the women of one household from 1945 until 2012.

  • A post office at homeBeatrice Salazar, born in New Mexico, came to Youngsville after she married and took charge of its post office with little idea of how one worked. She learned on the job and served customers from her own house until the town built a permanent post office right next door.
  • Three generations, 1945 to 2012The office Beatrice Salazar started in her home stayed in her family after she left it. Three generations of women from that one family served as Youngsville's postmaster, a run that began in 1945 and lasted until 2012.
