About Cut and Shoot, Texas

Cut and Shoot is a city in eastern Montgomery County, six miles east of Conroe and forty miles north of Houston. Its unusual name is linked to a 1912 community dispute, remembered through accounts involving a church steeple, preaching rights, or land claims. Once described as a town, the municipality chose city status in 2006.

  • Early GrowthThe reported population rose from 50 in the mid-1970s to 809 in 1980, when the incorporated community had a new city hall.

  • Postal ConnectionHeavy mail addressed to Roy Harris helped prompt the U.S. Postal Service to grant the community a franchise post office.
