About Dakota Ridge, Colorado
Dakota Ridge is a community of 33,892 people in Jefferson County. Denver lies to its east and Lakewood to its north. On the west, the land ends at the Dakota Hogback, a sharp ridge. Farther north, near Morrison, the same ridge goes by Dinosaur Ridge. In 1988, voters said no to a plan to make Dakota Ridge a city, so the county still runs it.
- A reservoir from 1873Harriman Reservoir was built in 1873, before Colorado became a state, which makes it among the oldest in the Denver Water system. It still sends water to Fort Logan National Cemetery and Pinehurst Country Club, and it waters land owned by Jeffco Public Schools as well.
- A new dam by 2013In December 2011, Denver Water began to replace the reservoir's old dam. The new dam is made of earth, and the work was done in February 2013. The water and the land around it are now Harriman Lake Park. The Foothills Park & Recreation District runs the park.
