About Eastmont, Washington
Eastmont is a community of 24,059 people in Snohomish County, with the City of Everett on every side. Until 2010 it was part of a larger census area called Seattle Hill-Silver Firs. That year the area was split in two, and Eastmont and Silver Firs each got a name of their own.
Most of Eastmont's 5.112 square miles are taken up by large residential neighborhoods. Community Transit runs the Eastmont Park & Ride here, and Sound Transit Express route 513 serves it.
- A kitchen table in 1981On an evening in the spring of 1981, a few families gathered around a kitchen table to discuss founding a Catholic high school in Snohomish County. Their idea became a real school in September 1988. Holy Cross High School opened that month in the former Our Lady of Perpetual Help grade school, starting with 15 freshmen and eight sophomores as fundraising went on for a permanent campus. The school still calls its founders the kitchen table families.
- Renamed for an archbishop in 1999In 1999 Holy Cross took the name of the late Archbishop Thomas J. Murphy, who had worked hard to make the school a success. That October, 254 students and 20 teachers moved onto the new campus on the south Everett property. At first its only building was Old Main, along with some portables.
