About Meadowdale, Washington

Meadowdale is a community of 3,148 people in Snohomish County, on the eastern shore of Possession Sound. It began as a settlement on the Great Northern Railway's coast line, on the stretch of Puget Sound between Mukilteo and Edmonds. By 1906 the young community had its own railroad station and a log cabin hotel that a county history praised for its unusual look, and its post office and school were already open.

  • Named by Robert MaltbyRobert Maltby, one of the early settlers, chose the name Meadowdale for a meadow that lay near the original town site.
  • A post office from 1904The Meadowdale post office opened in 1904 and served the community until 1938. Today every home in Meadowdale carries an Edmonds mailing address.
  • Fifty pupils in 1906The 1906 county history counted fifty pupils at the Meadowdale school. The same book found the settlers busy clearing land for berry patches, fruit orchards and market gardens, the farms that fed the new railroad settlement.
