About Kendall, Washington
Kendall was named for Carthage Kendall, the first homesteader in the area. He came from West Virginia and settled there in 1884. F.B. Hardmen founded the town in 1887.
In 1900 people found a seam of fine limestone in Sumas Mountain near Kendall. An English company set up a mine there. Some people thought the town would grow to several thousand residents. That never happened. Only ten or fifteen families stayed once the seam was worked out.
