About New Lebanon, Ohio

New Lebanon is a village of 3,796 people in Montgomery County, part of the Dayton metropolitan area. Its town plat was drawn up in 1843. A post office opened here in 1847 under the name Medill, and two years later, in 1849, the office and the town took the name New Lebanon.

The community organized as a village in 1878, and voters elected N. S. Price as mayor. A village charter came a full century later. It took effect on January 1, 1979, and formally made New Lebanon a municipality.

  • Laid out across two townshipsWhen New Lebanon was platted in 1843, the township line ran through the new town, so some of its streets lay in Jackson Township and the rest in Perry Township.
  • Home of Dixie High SchoolThe village has its own school district, the New Lebanon Local School District. Its elementary school, middle school and Dixie High School all serve New Lebanon's students.
  • A Dayton Metro branchNew Lebanon's public library is one of the branches of the Dayton Metro Library.
