About Peacham, Vermont

Leonard Worcester was the first pastor of Peacham's Congregational church, founded in 1794. His son Samuel became a missionary to the Cherokee people. Samuel created the first typeface for the Cherokee alphabet. He later won fame for bringing the Supreme Court case known as Worcester v. Georgia.

Early Peacham could have had either the county courthouse or the county school. Residents voted for the school. The Caledonia County Grammar School received its charter in 1795, and its first classes met in a log building.
