About Sanborn, New York
The village took its name from Rev. E. C. Sanborn, an enterprising man who settled there. In 1864 his son, Lee R. Sanborn, joined Rev. Griffin Smith to buy ninety acres on the village site. Lee laid out his share in village lots and put them on the market. John Dutton was the first buyer.
In 1813 Jairus Rose, who lived near Sanborn, sowed two acres of land with apple seed. It started the first nursery in Niagara County. The young trees were sent out across the settled parts of the county. Each seedling tree sold for twelve cents.
- The mill burned and came backLee R. Sanborn built a sawmill at the village in 1854. Fire destroyed the mill in 1861, and he rebuilt it at once. He served as a member of the Assembly in 1870 and 1871.
