About Spring Ridge, Maryland
Spring Ridge is a suburban community of 6,005 people in Frederick County, just east of the city of Frederick across the Monocacy River. Linganore Creek runs along its northern edge, and Interstate 70 cuts through the middle of it. The Census Bureau once counted it as part of the larger Linganore-Bartonsville census-designated place, and Spring Ridge got its own count in 2010, when that place was divided into three.
- From mill to summer innThe Linganore Mills once ran on Linganore Farm, beside Linganore Creek near the Monocacy River. By 1891 the mill had stopped, and that year Henry C. Brown bought the 182-acre property from its owner, the Mutual Insurance Co. of Frederick County. Within a few years Brown had reopened the main house as the Linganore Hills Inn, where families from Washington and Baltimore came to spend their summers. Linganore Farm is now on the National Register.
- Forty-five washstands in 1901In 1901 Henry C. Brown passed the Linganore Hills Inn to his daughters, Emma and Laura. The deed counted forty-five bureaus and forty-five washstands among its furnishings, which shows how large the inn had grown in its first decade.
- Valley View FarmCharles and Elizabeth Howard had the land under the Howard-Brengle-Rosenstock House surveyed in 1796, and local tradition dates the house to about 1812. In 1867 the farm passed to John W. and Robert Brengle. The brothers named it Valley View Farm and worked it as a farm, growing crops and keeping animals.
