About Linganore, Maryland
Linganore is a community of 12,351 people in eastern Frederick County, about 7 miles east of downtown Frederick. Its neighborhoods ring Lake Linganore and reach south to Interstate 70, between New Market on the east and Bartonsville and Spring Ridge on the west.
The whole area grew up as a residential development, and a homeowners association still governs it. Until 2010 the Census Bureau counted it together with its neighbor as the Linganore-Bartonsville CDP, and then it began counting Linganore on its own.
- Maryland's largest private lakeLake Linganore sits behind Brosius Dam, a 600-foot wall of rock and earth fill built across Linganore Creek. The developers who built it needed the dam to hold back the creek, but they also wanted to leave the land around it as undisturbed as they could. The water it holds became the largest private lake in Maryland.
- Built along Linganore CreekLinganore Creek flows west through the middle of the community toward the Monocacy River, which carries its water on to the Potomac. Homes stand on both banks of the creek, gathered around the lake that the dam created.
