About Waddington, New York

In 1940 Waddington was a terminal for Canadian pulpwood and a busy milk shipping center. Beside the village, the St. Lawrence River flowed past the ruins of a lock from the 1700s. That old lock was built so boats could get past the Rapide Plat.

Waddington was first known as Hamilton village. Settlers arrived in 1797 and found one family already living there. The village incorporated in 1839 while it still belonged to Madrid. The town broke away from Madrid in 1859.
