About Yankeetown, Florida

Judge A. F. Knotts founded Yankeetown during the Florida boom days. Back in 1905, he had planned the city of Gary, Indiana. His village on the Withlacoochee River became a sportsmen's resort. The first Florida chapter of the Izaak Walton League was organized here.

In the summer of 1961, parts of the Elvis Presley movie Follow That Dream were filmed in Yankeetown. The film reached theaters in 1962. A stretch of County Road 40 now carries the name Follow That Dream Parkway.
