About Durhamville, New York
Durhamville took its name from Eber Durham, who settled here in 1826 after leaving Manlius. Only four log houses stood on the site at that time. Durham leased the surplus canal water and used it for power. That right was abolished some years later. The canal drove most of the village's later growth.
For many years, Stevens and Fox ran a glass factory at Durhamville. Samuel J. Fox and his son later ran it. The business was very profitable until money trouble struck about 1876. Martin B. DeLong, who had lent the owners a large sum, finally took it over. He organized the DeLong Glass Company. It ran until the merger that formed the United Glass Company.
