About Grenloch, New Jersey
Grenloch got its name from a prominent local citizen named Bateman. He chose the name when the village's railway station was built. Bateman and his brother Edward led the effort to build the Camden County Railroad to the village. He also sat on the railroad's board of directors.
In 1939 Grenloch was a small cluster of cottages beside a spring-fed lake, used for boating, fishing and swimming. Across from the lake stood Weber's Buffalo Farm, a tract of 364 acres where five American bison grazed. Bears, elk, monkeys and ostriches lived there too.
