About Littlerock, California
Growers here raised pears and apples with water from Littlerock Creek, shared with Palmdale by contract. When the gypsum mills at Palmdale shut down, the town's fruit crops saved the area from another slump. The year after the mills closed, Littlerock shipped 26 carloads of fruit, mostly pears, from the Palmdale depot.
Littlerock takes its name from the Little Rock Wash. Orchards of almonds, apples, peaches and pears grew along the roads near Highway 138. The town was called the Fruit Basket of the Antelope Valley.
