About Mount Repose, Ohio

Mount Repose is a community of 4,648 people in Miami Township, Clermont County, about 20 miles northeast of downtown Cincinnati. It grew up as a small hamlet on ground Paul McGrew had once owned. Around 1828 a merchant named Selden put up a little brick house and opened a store inside it, and that country store marks the start of the place.

The hamlet later gained its own mail service. A post office named Mount Repose opened in 1867 and stayed in operation until 1907. Ohio State Route 28 runs through the community today, linking it with Goshen 4 miles to the northeast and Milford 4 miles to the southwest.

  • Selden's brick storeAbout 1828 Selden built a small brick house on former McGrew land just so he could sell goods there. Other merchants kept the store going after him. By 1880 the storekeeper was David Manning.
  • Post office, 1867 to 1907The Mount Repose post office opened in 1867 and carried the hamlet's name. In 1880 David Manning ran it alongside his store. The office stayed open until 1907.
  • 4,648 people in 2020The 2020 census counted 4,648 people in the Mount Repose census-designated place. It sits a little southeast of the center of Miami Township, with Mulberry on its west side and Day Heights to the south.
