About Pike Creek, Delaware

Pike Creek is a community of 7,808 people in New Castle County, about 10 miles west of Wilmington and roughly five miles from downtown Newark. Several bike trails link its neighborhoods to the University of Delaware campus and to Newark's downtown. In 2007 Money Magazine, published by CNN, put Pike Creek at the top of its 100 Best Places to Live, and no other Delaware community made that list.

  • Three Little Bakers, 1971 to 2010For almost forty years Pike Creek had an 18-hole semi-private golf course, first called Three Little Bakers Golf Club and later Pike Creek Golf Club. Along with the course it held a bar, a restaurant and a dinner theater. When it closed in 2010, its owners and New Castle County ended up in court over plans to build houses on the land.
  • A court fight over 130 acresIn September 2013 a judge ruled that 130 acres of the old course had to stay usable for golf and open space. The state's highest court weighed in on August 5, 2021, siding with a 2010 decision about that land. The ruling lowered the number of homes allowed there from 224 to 60.
  • Goldey-Beacom and St. Mark'sGoldey-Beacom College and St. Mark's High School both stand in Pike Creek. Public school students attend one of two districts: Red Clay Consolidated covers the eastern side, and Christina covers the western side.
  • Parks along White Clay CreekWhite Clay Creek State Park, the Middle Run Natural Area and the Carousel Farm Park and Equestrian Center are all close to home for Pike Creek families.
