About Cherryland, California
Cherryland is an unincorporated community of 15,808 people in Alameda County. It lies within the historic Eden Township, squeezed between Ashland on one side and Hayward on the other. Most of this ground was once farmland owned by William Meek, a San Lorenzo pioneer whose orchards covered 2,200 acres. He is remembered as the first farmer of Alameda County.
In 1911 Meek's heirs of the third generation began to divide one huge part of the farm into house lots, and they called that subdivision Cherryland. Today the community is made up mostly of homes built on the old Meek orchards. San Lorenzo Creek flows partly through it and marks most of its northern edge.

- The Meek MansionWilliam Meek's mansion and its carriage house still stand on Hampton Road, toward the north end of Cherryland, and they are listed together on the National Register of Historic Places. The Hayward Area Recreation and Park District looks after the house, working together with the Hayward Area Historical Society.
- A local council since 2019Because Cherryland is unincorporated, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors governs it. In 2019 the board created the Eden Area Municipal Advisory Council, a group of seven appointed residents who help the supervisors make policy decisions.
