About Goulding, Florida

Goulding is a community of 3,392 people in Escambia County, about 2 miles west of Pensacola. It got its start in 1889, when a fertilizer business owned by H. M. and W. J. Goulding gave the new settlement its name.

Industry stayed at the center of local life after that. By 1918 Goulding had a stop on the L. and N. railroad, and the American Agricultural Chemical Company operated there alongside two general stores.

  • Founded in 1889The community dates from 1889. It carries the family name of H. M. and W. J. Goulding, who owned the Goulding Fertilizer Company.
  • A railroad stop by 1918The state business directory for 1918 placed Goulding northwest of Pensacola, with a stop on the L. and N. line. That year it had two general stores and the American Agricultural Chemical Company, so the place still made fertilizer and chemicals as it had at its founding.
  • 3,392 people in 2020The 2020 census counted 3,392 people in Goulding, down from 4,102 in 2010. The whole community covers 1.2 square miles, all of it land.
