About Ivy, Virginia
Meriwether Lewis was born near Ivy Depot in 1774. He later gave his name to the Lewis and Clark Expedition. That expedition explored Oregon and the Columbia River country. It also explored other land in the Louisiana Purchase, which Thomas Jefferson had negotiated.
From 1826 to 1851 the village was called Woodville, after the locally prominent Wood family. When the railroad arrived in 1851, its stop here took the name Woodville Depot. By 1859 the stop was called Ivy Depot. In the 1950s the name was cut down to plain Ivy.
