About Kingstowne, Virginia
Kingstowne is a planned community of 16,825 people in southeastern Fairfax County, about 13 miles southwest of downtown Washington, D.C. Its center sits where South Van Dorn Street meets Kingstowne Boulevard, and the town center there holds offices and shops.
Around that center, the community is made up of many subdivisions. Their homes range from apartments and condominiums to townhomes and single-family houses, and Fort Belvoir lies along its southern edge.
- George Carroll's storeLong before the planned community, a small settlement grew up here around a school, a church and a general store run by George Carroll. The store stood where Kingstowne Village Parkway runs today.
- Built from the 1980sThe Halle Companies began building Kingstowne in the 1980s, and the work has never fully stopped. New office and commercial space keeps going up in the town center, and builders are still adding single-family homes to the subdivisions.
