About Misquamicut, Rhode Island
There were no permanent homes here before 1894. That year Court B. Bliven of Westerly, who had kept a tent at the point, decided to build a cottage. A group of Westerly men soon bought a long strip of beach and built several more cottages. Bliven's wife named the group Pleasant View.
The beach district went by Pleasant View until 1928, when it took the name Misquamicut. The new name came from a Narragansett word. It means Red Fish Place or Salmon Place.
