About Pasadena, Maryland
Pasadena is a community of 32,979 people in northern Anne Arundel County, with Baltimore to the north and the tidal Patapsco River to the east. The census area follows Mountain Road and reaches up the Marley Neck peninsula to the city line. Residents also use the name for Lake Shore and Riviera Beach, since all three share the 21122 zip code and the same county services.
- A school built in 1927The Marley Neck Rosenwald School cost $4,300 to build in 1927, more than any other Rosenwald school in Anne Arundel County. The local African American community gave $800 toward it and the Rosenwald Fund gave $500. It was the only school of its kind in the county where the community paid more than the fund. It stands on land given by Halls Memorial United Methodist Church next door.
- The first Pasadena crossroadsUSGS topographic maps mark the original community of Pasadena where Pasadena Road meets Governor Ritchie Highway, Maryland Route 2. The Census Bureau now counts that corner as part of Severna Park, just south of today's Pasadena.
- From pop star to the OriolesPasadena's people include Ronnie Dove, a pop star of the 1960s who turned to country music in the 1970s, and Dan Duquette, once general manager of the Baltimore Orioles. Broadway actress and singer Brandi Burkhardt and former Anne Arundel County Executive John R. Leopold are from Pasadena too.
