About Noroton, Connecticut

Noroton is a community of 5,317 people in the town of Darien, in Fairfield County, stretching south from the Metro-North tracks to the shore of Long Island Sound. Its southern half sits on Noroton Neck, with Holly Pond on one side and the Goodwives River on the other, and the city of Stamford lies just past its western edge. Noroton Heights is to the north, the Tokeneke neighborhood of Darien is to the east, and the Census Bureau first counted Noroton as a place of its own in 2020.

  • A house from the 1690sNathaniel Pond, a blacksmith from Branford, most likely built the Pond-Weed House in the late 1690s. In 1716 he sold it to Nathaniel Weed, and Weed's family went on to own it for 210 years.
  • The Half-way HouseThe Pond-Weed House stood about midway on the road from Stamford to Norwalk, next to the Noroton River ford and the landing where sloops once tied up. That spot earned it a second name, the Half-way House, and a firm local tradition holds that it served travelers as a tavern in the 1700s.
