About Huntington, Virginia

Huntington is a community of 13,749 people in Fairfax County, on the southern edge of the city of Alexandria. Its heart is the Huntington subdivision, a neighborhood built in the late 1940s with mostly duplex homes. The neighborhood grew up as part of the capital's suburbs, with Old Town Alexandria 2 miles away in one direction and the center of Washington, D.C., 10 miles north.

“On 10 June 1863, President Lincoln personally inspected the damage caused by the spectacular explosion of the fort's powder magazine.”
Virginia Department of Historic Resources
  • The end of the Yellow LineHuntington station is the last stop on the Washington Metro's Yellow Line. Several tall apartment and condominium buildings rose on and near U.S. Route 1, and much of the community's population lives in them.
  • The flood of June 2006In June 2006 a torrential rainstorm pushed Cameron Run over its banks. The water ravaged the lower northern part of Huntington, where the land sits closest to the stream.
  • An Alexandria addressHuntington lies outside Alexandria's city limits, but its homes share ZIP code 22303 and get their mail with an Alexandria address.
